If you grew up watching the wholesome drama Little House on the Prairie, where Laura Ingalls Wilder always urged everyone “to be happy with simple pleasures,” then we have some exciting news for you. The series based on the 1930s books by the character is coming back to your screens.
Netflix has planned to reboot the 1970/1980s classic with a revised version of the books. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who will be at the helm as showrunner, shared in a statement, “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was five years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”
Those who’ve read the books were treated to Wilder’s own memories of growing up in the 1800s in the American West. They were first published in the 1930s during the Great Depression before being turned into the popular television series, which starred Michael Landon (father of Yellowstone’s Jennifer Landon/Teeter). The show was produced by Ed Friendly and debuted on NBC on September 11, 1974, with its last air date on May 10, 1982.
“It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st-century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series,” stated Trip Friendly, CEO of Friendly Family Productions.
