We’ve been watching Laura Wright in daytime since 1991. No, she hasn’t played Carly since the early 1990s but rather landed her first soap role on Loving as Ally and crossed the character over to All My Children twice. From there, she left the fictional town of Corinth in 1995 and took Ally over to The City until 1997 before landing the role of Cassie on Guiding Light where she stayed until 2005. And later that same year, Wright stepped into the Port Charles role, a role she’s played for over 19 years.
Wright recently chatted with Woman’s World magazine about her life, her love and how long it’s taken her to get to this point. Anyone who follows the actress knows she and her former Guiding Light and General Hospital castmate Wes Ramsey (Sam, ex-Peter) have been a couple for years. Over talk of their life together, Wright shared that they are “still unpacking and hanging things” in their new home. “We have our little puppy, and my kids are healthy and happy, and General Hospital is thriving. Life is good!”
The actress feels as though she’s found a balance in life. And while she used to “react in a way that was life or death,” in response to all of the ups and downs that have been thrown her way, she’s learned to handle things differently. “As adults, we have choices. ‘Do we allow our emotions to be controlled by everybody else’s actions?’” She went on to explain, “I also respect the people I interact with, so even if someone is coming at me or making decisions I don’t like, maybe I don’t have to yell.” Instead of “fighting, resisting and judging,” she takes in the moment and handles it accordingly.
Wright is a certified meditation coach and after opening up about her own past on Maurice Benard’s (Sonny) State of Mind, her fans began opening up as well. “It’s taken a long time to get here,” she admitted and now helps others through her Sacred Spaces events. “It’s not about me telling people how to live their best life. Only they know what that is,” she shared then added that when you help someone “through their own words” and lend a hand in them finding their way, “it is powerful.”
